Chiropractors Are Doctors

While chiropractors do not prescribe medications or perform surgeries, they do complete the required training to receive a Doctor of Chiropractic or D.C. degree. A Doctor of Chiropractic includes education and training in anatomy, chemistry, spinal biomechanics, microbiology, neurology, orthopedics, physical assessment, obstetrics, pathology, physiology, diagnosis and radiology.

Like medical school, students entering chiropractic school must have an undergraduate background in a premedical study. A D.C. degree traditionally takes four years to complete.

After receiving their D.C. degree, chiropractors must also complete continuing education annually to remain in good standing with the state licensing board. Chiropractors are doctors who are specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorder and focus on the intimate relationship between the nervous system and the spine.
